Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting single-use hairlike needles into specific points on the body to promote healing and balance energy flow based on the patient’s symptoms and health goals.

An acupuncture treatment starts with an intake where we talk about any health concerns and expectations for treatment. Afterwards the needles are inserted and are typically left in place for about 15–30 minutes while the patient relaxes. Treatments end with any other modalities that can be applied as necessary. Other modalities include cupping, moxibustion, or gua sha. Moxibustion is the use of compressed mugwort to warm the body and promote circulation. Gua sha uses a tool to massage deeper into the tissues and release any muscle tightness. Typically during treatment many people experience a sense of calm or mild tingling, and the session aims to restore balance and support the body’s natural healing processes. Acupuncture is not meant to cause pain, only to help relieve it.
